History

The Ross Elementary Family Foundation was founded in October 2023 by a small group of parents who wanted more opportunities for our children then the school budget typically allows. We are dedicated to building connections and providing support to the Ross community which includes our students, teachers, staff, families, and our broader neighborhood community. We want to use our time and financial resources to improve the quality and depth of enrichment activities, academics, and operations at Ross Elementary school.

At the time of our founding, Ross Elementary was a small, culturally and linguistically diverse school serving just under 200 students from TK-5th grade. We are a Title 1 school with over 70% of our student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch and over 30% designated as English Language Learners (ELL). The diversity of our student body is both a strength and a support need at our school.

We want our students to experience what San Diego and the world have to offer them. Our children deserve more than the school budget allows, so one of our primary missions is to fund raise so that we can give these students the elementary school experience that every child deserves.

We want to send our students into the community for field trips, bring experiences to school, and expand student-led leadership clubs. We also believe that to improve student outcomes, we need to lift up our entire community; that means working together so that our families, teachers, and staff feel welcomed and supported.
